How to Make Your Singing Bowl Sing

Follow these instructions to learn how to make your singing bowl sing.

Choose Your Bowl For Instructions

ZenSerenity, ZenHarmony, (3-4 inch BeMindful Bowls)

  1. PLACE THE CUSHION IN YOUR HAND: Your hand absorbs the vibrations of the bowl very quickly. Placing the cushion in your hand will help maintain the vibrations needed to make the bowl sing easier. You can place it directly in your hand but make sure that your hand is very flat.
  2. Tap the Rim 1st before singing: Hold the mallet and tap the singing bowl, letting it bounce off the bowl with a loose wrist.
  3. Let the mallet make contact with the rim: Take the mallet and glide it over the rim of the bowl applying pressure BOTH toward the center of the bowl and around it using constant.  Make sure your circle motion is steady and consistent and that the mallet is being pressed toward the center of the bowl as you move it around the rim. Don't worry it takes 1-2 tries to get it right.
  4. Try to Speed up and slow down: Experiment with moving the mallet faster and slower around the rim of the bowl. for different sounds
  5. Be Quiet: Stop, quiet your mind and as you play the Be Quiet Bowl, try to quiet your mind, calm your heart, and focus on the sound waves coming from the bowl. Stop the singing and listen very closely until you cannot hear the singing any longer. 

ZenProspera Bowl (6 Inch BeMindful Bowl)

  1. Hold the Singing Bowl: Place the bowl FLAT ON YOUR PALM. Ensure your fingers do not touch the bowl to avoid muffling the sound. Use the cushion to help it sing better
  2. TAP THE RIM FIRST: Hold the mallet by the wooden side and gently tap the bowl using the leather side.
  3. Move the mallet around the rim of the bowl applying pressure BOTH toward the center of the bowl and around it using constant pressure.
  4. Be Quiet: Quiet your mind, Calm your heart, and focus on the sound of the bowl, following it with your ears as long as you can. You can also keep your eyes open too!

ZenBalance & ZenClarity Bell Bowls (8-10 Inch BeMindful Bell Bowls)

  1. Place the Bell Bowl on the Cushion: These bowls are 4-6lbs! You can hold it in your hand but it works great on a cushion. For sound healing, you can place the cushion on a flat part of the body with the bowl on top or directly place the bowl on the body. You can also move the bowl around the body with it in your hand, but support the bowl by placing your other hand under the hand that is holding it. 
  2. WOODEN MALLET - FIRMLY Tap the bowl: Firmly tap the suede side of the mallet against the of the bowl and make sure you allow the mallet to bounce off the bowl by using a loose wrist motion (refer to video). (Louder, sharper sound.
  3. RUBBER MALLET - The rubber mallet produces a softer tone but extremely powerful vibrations that are great for healing work. Tap the bowl very hard with the rubber mallet or tap it repeatedly with a a lot of force to produce very strong healing vibrations that you can feel inside your body.
  4. OPTIONAL SINGING: Bell Bowls are used for their deep vibration and long-lasting sound. This bowl has a tone that lasts 40 seconds to a minute. You can make it sing but it's not necessary. USING THE RUBBER MALLET - Tap the RIM OF THE BOWL VERY FIRMLY and then move it around the rim while applying pressure toward the center of the bowl. The intense vibrations that this bowl makes require you to use more pressure. This bowl has a very soft singing and stronger vibrations that are perfect for sound healing. Use the WOODEN MALLET for a more high frequency sound.
  5. Quiet your mind and Take in the Vibes: As you tap the bowl, Quiet your thoughts and feelings. Focus on the deep waves of sound and vibrations that the bowl makes and open yourself up so they can help you shake away stuck, hardened energy. Listen as the bowl sounds with a hypnotic rhythm as you let go of anything that does not serve you and attract what you need at the moment.

Making 3-inch & 4-inch bowls SING. Requires Practice & Patience

Making 6-inch bowls sing. Remember to tap 1st, then make sing.

Try Our Simple ZenProspera Mindfulness Practice

  1. Get Comfortable: sit comfortably in a chair, on the floor, or lie down on the ground.
  2. Create Silence: Turn off any devices or sources of sound, such as speakers, screens, or TVs, to make the room as quiet as possible.
  3. Notice the Silence:  focus on your breathing and take deep breaths. Listen for any subtle "white noise," like the hum of the air conditioner, creaks in the walls, or distant voices.
  4. Start with tapping: Gently tap the singing bowl to producing a ringing sound that lingers for 30 seconds to one minute. (Refer to the videos for special tapping techniques to produce the best sound!)
  5. Listening Challenge: Tap the singing bowl and let it ring until you cannot hear the sound AT ALL. Focus very closely on the rhythm of the sound and keep your attention on it. Once the sound is done, wait 20-30 seconds in silence and then repeat x3: Conduct three rounds of this listening exercise, treating it as a deep mindfulness activity.
  6. Transition Out: Slowly bring your attention back by tapping the bowl multiple times, opening your eyes if they are closed and taking some nice deep breaths.
